Betting on Myself: How Clarity Changed Everything

(And Why I’ll Never Rely on a Company to Decide My Worth Again)

A few months ago, I found myself sitting in front of my computer, staring at yet another layoff notice. It was less of a notice, than a oh, I just lost access to all my systems, huh, well that was rude.

It wasn’t the first time, and I knew deep down it probably wouldn’t be the last if I stayed on the same path.

I am fifty.
I had worked in tech my entire adult life, designing digital experiences that connected people to products, services, and ideas. I had climbed the ladder. I had done everything “right.”
But when the industry shifted, as it always does, I realized the rug could be pulled out from under me at any time.

And this time, I didn’t want to rebuild someone else’s vision again.
I wanted to rebuild mine.

The Breaking Point

If you have ever been in a career that looked good on paper but felt hollow in your chest, you know exactly what I mean.

For me, it wasn’t just the layoff.
It was the slow erosion of trust I once had in “stable” companies, the kind that talk about innovation and inclusion but quietly phase out anyone over forty.

Let’s be honest. Tech isn’t friendly to older talent.
The same experience that once got me in the door became the reason they stopped calling back.

I realized I had spent decades building other people’s dreams, and they could end it all with one reorganization email.

That was the day I made a life-changing decision.
I was done trusting companies to “do the right thing.”
From that moment forward, I decided to bet on myself.

Reinventing Myself at Fifty

Starting over at fifty is not glamorous.
It is terrifying.
But it is also clarifying.

I knew I didn’t want another job.
I wanted freedom.
Real freedom.

Freedom to choose my clients.
Freedom to do meaningful work.
Freedom to build something that was mine.

That was when I started my business helping female coaches get seen online through powerful, intentional brand and website design.

But I will be honest. I didn’t have it all figured out in the beginning.
I was hustling, trying to do everything for everyone. My services were scattered. My messaging was inconsistent.
Every day, I felt like I was still running on that same hamster wheel, only wearing a new logo.

Sound familiar?

The Turning Point: Clarity and Focus

One day, after a particularly draining week of “doing all the things,” I sat down with my journal and asked myself a simple question:

If I had just six months left, how would I spend my time? Who would I spend it with? What would I change, add or eliminate?

Those questions cracked something open inside me.

I realized I didn’t want to just make websites.
I wanted to help women coaches become truly seen for their brilliance, their message, and their impact.

That was when I developed The SEEN Method, my process for helping coaches uncover their unique value, design their digital presence, and attract aligned clients with ease.

And when clarity finally arrived, everything began to flow.

I started attracting clients who were excited, respectful, and ready to invest.
My marketing became easier because I finally had a story that made sense.
I stopped comparing myself to every designer on LinkedIn because I knew exactly who I was and what made my work different.

That clarity didn’t just grow my business.
It brought back my confidence.

Why Clarity Is the Real Power Move

You have probably seen it a hundred times: coaches online talking about clarity, focus, and alignment.

It sounds cliché until you have lived the opposite.

Clarity is what turns chaos into confidence.
It helps you say no to projects that drain you and yes to opportunities that feel expansive.
It allows you to raise your rates without guilt, to build boundaries that protect your time, and to create a business that fits your life, not the other way around.

When you know who you are, what you offer, and who it is for, everything becomes easier:

  • Your content practically writes itself.
  • Discovery calls become natural conversations, not interviews.
  • Clients start referring you because your message is clear and memorable.
  • You stop chasing and start attracting.

That is the power of clarity.
It is the quiet confidence that says, “I know who I am, and I know where I’m going.”

Why I’ll Never Go Back

Every now and then, someone asks if I would ever go back to corporate life.
My answer is always the same: absolutely not.

Not because I have anything against it, but because I learned the hard way that security doesn’t come from a paycheck.
It comes from purpose, clarity, and knowing how to create opportunities for yourself.

I have watched too many brilliant women get overlooked by systems that were never designed to see them fully.
I don’t want that for myself, and I don’t want that for the women I work with.

That is why I built my business to help female coaches design their visibility, their message, and their offers from a place of deep clarity.

Because when you know who you are and how you serve, no company, algorithm, or market shift can take that away.

The Foundation Every Coach Needs

Whether you are just starting your coaching business or have been doing it for years, clarity and focus are not optional. They are your foundation.

You can have the best strategy, the most beautiful website, and the most inspiring brand photos in the world, but if you do not know why you are doing it or who you are doing it for, everything will feel harder than it needs to be.

Before you create another social post or tweak another offer, pause.
Take a step back and ask yourself:

  • What do I want to be known for?
  • Who do I love helping most?
  • What transformation do I want to be remembered for?

These are not just marketing questions. They are clarity questions.
They are the same questions that changed everything for me.

Final Thoughts

Reinvention is not just about changing careers or launching a business.
It is about reclaiming your power and your peace.

If you are reading this and you feel stuck, unclear, or undervalued, I want you to know something:
You are not behind.
You are becoming.
